About URLtoMD

An independent free web tool built to solve one simple problem — getting clean, usable text from any webpage.

Who Built URLtoMD?

URLtoMD was built by an independent developer based in India. It is a solo project, not a startup, not a corporation, and not affiliated with any AI company, media organisation or financial institution. It was built to solve a real problem encountered daily — extracting clean, usable text from webpages for use in AI tools, research and development work.

The tool is maintained on a best-effort basis. If you find a bug or have a suggestion, please email hello@urltomd.in.

Why Was URLtoMD Built?

In late 2024, as large language models became a daily tool for millions of people, a common problem emerged: when you copy text from a webpage and paste it into ChatGPT or Claude, you get a mess of invisible HTML formatting, broken spacing, and navigation clutter that the AI has to wade through. The actual content is buried.

Developers had workarounds — command-line tools, API integrations, Python scripts. But non-technical users had nothing simple, free and instant. URLtoMD was built to fill that gap. Paste a URL, get clean text. That's it.

How URLtoMD Works

URLtoMD uses Jina AI's Reader API — a publicly available service that fetches any URL and returns clean, structured Markdown. The API strips HTML tags, removes navigation, ads, scripts and formatting noise, and returns only the core written content.

URLtoMD is a front-end wrapper around this API. It provides a clean, simple interface, a preview window, download functionality, bulk conversion, and no signup requirement. No data is stored on our servers.
